Historians have noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping, while addressing the Chinese population, recently made a rare admission of a massive purge of internal enemies within the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). In an address to the Chinese population, Xi Jinping said that the Chinese military had passed through "revolutionary tempering," specifically through the fight against corruption. These statements followed a purge of PLA leadership when General Zhang Youxia, Xi’s closest former ally, was dismissed from office. The purge of Chinese leadership can be considered devastating because, within October 2025, a series of Chinese leaders were dismissed from office, including top generals of the Chinese army, leaving only two of the seven powerful leaders of the Central Military Commission (CMC), including Xi Jinping himself. The real reason behind the purge is said to be Chinese leaders’ "serious violations of discipline and law"; however, these actions indicate to the Communist Party of China that it is necessary to be loyal to Xi’s policies. While talking about the political rectification, President Xi is simply trying to pacify the Chinese population and Communist leaders about the reliability of the PLA leadership regardless of the internal conflict within the highest echelons of command.
